Feng Shui: Nine tips for Holiday Decorating
By Mary Swick, The Feng Shui Lady

  1. Before decorating, clear off shelves and create open space.
  2. Look for a nature motif in holiday decorations.
  3. Place an arrangement of pillar candles on oversized plate. Cover the plate with rice or cranberries. (Besides looking great, the rice and cranberries will catch wax-drippings and save cleanup time.)
  4. Outdoor lights should reinforce the front door and pathway. Do not draw the eye to outlying bushes or hedges.
  5. Purchase ornaments which are meaningful.
  6. Consider a new holiday color scheme. Choose muted colors for calmer holidays.
  7. Invest in decorative items such as tassels, silver bowls or attractive glassware which can be used to create year-round joy.
  8. Think multiples, as repetition calms the mind. Consider six wooden soldiers, eight votive candles or three poinsettias, instead of one of each.
  9. Minimize extension cords. Visible electrical cords are draining and supportive of depression.
